Frbiz Analyzes Investment Opportunities in China's Lithium Battery Material Industry

Published: Friday, 27 Aug 2010
10:00 AM ET Text Size

BEIJING, Aug 27, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Frbiz.com, one of China's leading B2B search platforms, analyzes investment opportunities in the lithium battery material industry.

Traditional non-renewable resource use in China is being restricted and energy saving techniques is being promoted across the globe. The three core technologies for new energy vehicles are motor, electric systems and battery operated systems.

Relative to lead-acid batteries, nickel cadmium battery and ni-mh secondary batteries, lithium batteries have a higher energy density with a smaller self-discharge and a longer life cycles. These advantages place the development of lithium ion batteries at the forefront of new energy vehicle development.

The lithium battery industry chain composes lithium mineral resources, lithium raw materials (including anode materials, cathode materials, the diaphragm, and battery electrolyte) and battery manufacturing and encapsulation parts. One of the anode materials accounts for a disproportionately large part of lithium battery cost - almost 30-40%. From the technical content analysis, diaphragm and electrolyte require the highest technological expertise.

From the current lithium battery industry's gross margin analysis, diaphragm and lithium hexafluorophosphate electrolyte materials have a gross margin of 70%, electrolyte has a gross margin around 40%, and anode materials and cathode materials have a gross margin of 20%.

At present, China's domestic automobile lithium battery design process is improving and the industry chain is also gradually realizing greater profits.

With the support of national policy, there will be greater investment in the lithium battery industry."

Goldstone director comments on exploration halt

2010-08-27 09:13 ET - News Release

Mr. Philip Cunningham reports

PHILIP CUNNINGHAM RESPONDS TO GOLDSTONE NEWS RELEASE REGARDING EXPLORATION DRILLING HALT

Philip Cunningham, a director and the largest shareholder of Goldstone Resources Inc., today questioned information relayed by the news release issued yesterday by Goldstone which announced that the company's geologists at its Key Lake property had resigned following Mr. Cunningham's delivery to Goldstone and its board of directors of a requisition for a special meeting of shareholders.

"At the outset, it is important to note that the news release was issued without being reviewed by, and without the approval of, the board of directors of Goldstone," Mr. Cunningham stated. "In addition, the decision to halt exploration drilling at the Key Lake property was not reviewed with the board. Unfortunately, this is common practice."

Mr. Cunningham added: "The clear intent of the Goldstone news release is to infer that the resignations of the contract geologists were caused by, or are somehow related to, the delivery of my requisition. This disclosure is highly misleading. I have been informed that the simple truth is that the contract geologists had raised certain concerns with management over a period of months which culminated in a meeting on Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, between management and the geologists. At this meeting, the geologists informed management that, if their concerns and frustrations were not resolved, they would resign. As a result, on Monday and Tuesday of this week, the geologists left the company."

Premier Gold drills 16.5 m of 3.16 g/t Au at Hardrock

2010-08-25 10:21 ET - News Release

See News Release (C-PG) Premier Gold Mines Ltd

Mr. Ewan Downie reports

PREMIER - DRILLING CONTINUES TO EXPAND NEAR-SURFACE GOLD ZONES AT HARDROCK

Drilling continues to delineate significant near-surface gold mineralization in multiple zones at Premier Gold Mines Ltd.'s Hardrock project in Northwestern Ontario. Current drilling is focused on expanding and defining near-surface, open-pit-style mineralization, in addition to defining multiple zones of higher-grade mineralization that are expected to comprise resources amenable to underground mining methods. Highlights from recent drilling include:

The identification of two primary high-grade lenses within the NN zone horizon. Intersections in the newly identified East lense have returned up to 13.05 grams per tonne gold (g/t Au) across 4.1 metres (m) or 0.38 ounce per ton across 13.5 feet.

Infill and expansion drilling further defines the EP zone (open pit) target, with intersections of up to 3.16 g/t Au across 16.5 m (0.09 ounce per ton across 54.1 feet), 7.1 g/t Au across nine m (0.21 ounce per ton across 29.5 feet) and 5.43 g/t Au across 10.2 m (0.16 ounce per ton across 33.5 feet).

Deep drilling in the North and F zones continues to intersect impressive gold values, suggesting excellent resource potential proximal to and below existing mine workings. Further results from this drilling are expected in the near future.

NN zone drilling

The near-surface portion of the NN zone has now attained a strike length of approximately 600 metres. Recent drilling has been focused on defining narrower, underground-style mineralization down plunge and at depth below the previously announced, near-surface, NI 43-101 resource estimate at Hardrock. Of particular significance, drilling has identified two lenses of higher-grade gold mineralization, both of which remain wide open for expansion. Highlight intersections include 13.05 g/t Au across 4.1 m (0.38 ounce per ton across 13.5 feet) in hole MM160 from the new eastern high-grade lense that was identified when following up a previously drilled intersection of 4.93 g/t Au across 10.5 m (0.14 ounce per ton across 34.4 feet), and previously announced intersections within the main NN zone that returned 22.97 g/t Au across 24.8 m (0.67 ounce per ton across 81.4 feet) and 8.14 g/t Au across nine m (0.24 ounce per ton across 29.5 feet). Follow-up drilling down plunge of these intersections is under way. New drill results from the NN zone are contained in the relevant table.

This chart above looks very nasty - Gold smells this trouble - what will happen with the price of goods with unlimited supply? Economy gives no other choice than to Inflate pumping the liquidity by QE, and the US Dollar will be among the casualties.

"4. First Gold will make new all-time high, second will be M&A play: Majors will shop for Juniors with resources in the ground. Here is the double-game - Gold is moving up and Majors' production and Reserve Base is going down. If you like more leverage you are welcome to Silver market. Place to be is in stories will strong management, growing resources and stable political situations. Markets will be volatile by all means and political tensions will be driving this Gold Bull as well."

The United States government needs to take steps to preserve its top AAA-rating, a Standard & Poor's Ratings (S&P) official told Dow Jones newswire in an interview published on Thursday.

The measures taken in response to recommendations President Barack Obama's commission on fiscal responsibility would be crucial in the view S&P takes on the U.S. credit rating, he said.

"It is very important for the credit standing of the United States that the Congress considers very carefully what the fiscal commission proposes," John Chambers, chairman of S&P's sovereign rating committee, was quoted as saying.

"It is very important for Congress to take the required steps."

S&P maintains the United States' top AAA rating with a stable outlook, meaning there is not a significant chance of a change in the near future.

However, it has repeatedly warned about the gigantic deficit and the debt burden in the world's biggest economy, calling it a challenge for the government.

David Beers, S&P's global head of sovereign ratings said in a July report the U.S. does not have unlimited fiscal flexibility and the best-case scenario for the U.S. would be for its debt-GDP ratio to peak at around 80 percent, although there was a chance it could exceed 100 percent.

"So we don't think these political decisions on tackling the public finances can be put off forever," Beers said in the report.

Chambers also disagreed with Ireland's criticism of its downgrade in the Dow Jones interview.

Chambers said S&P does not consider the bad loans the government's asset management agency is buying from banks as liquid assets in the near term, but added further rating action was unlikely in the near term.

On Tuesday, S&P cut Ireland's long-term rating by one notch to 'AA-', the fourth highest investment grade, and assigned the country a negative outlook saying the cost to the government of supporting the financial sector had increased significantly.

That drew criticism from the National Treasury Management Agency which said it disagreed with S&P's view that Ireland faced substantially higher costs to bail out its ailing banking sector.

"In terms of the specific analysis by S&P, this is largely predicated upon an extreme estimate of bank recapitalization costs of up to 50 billion euros," the NTMA said. "We believe this approach is flawed."

Will you buy an Electric Car?

CS. Desperate times need desperate measures. After today's horrific existing home sales numbers and Charles Nenner's call for Dow at 5000, we cannot simply stand by. Our cash alone will not support the markets for the long time and even our ideas about saving the world can fade away in kerosene light of the writers crying about polluting electric cars and that "nobody will buy them anyway."

Obama calls for action, but the financial situation of the state is a hair breadth's away  from desperate. The middle-class, the backbone of our society, barely survives during this recession. FED will not be able to hold the economy for long, with oil above 150 USD/barrel: Twitter, Google and iPhone with iPad are only very nice after a good breakfast and when you can look forward to lunch. Will we have to roll back into our cave of Gold and Silver?

There is only one way to bring Electric Cars in a mass market fashion, beat the Deflation scare and start a new industrial revolution in U.S.: we still have a chance to stay at least on par with China, by making the Electric Car cool. Time for a letter to Steve Jobs.

There are a lot of predictions about how many people will consider buying an Electric Car. As we have mentioned numerous times, nobody knows for sure about the future for our Next Big Thing, but we think that we know the answer to how to make the adoption rate for Electric Cars much closer to the one of mobile phones or iPads, rather than the one of washing machines. All we need to do is ask Mr. Jobs to make an Electric iCar.

"The car is the second largest purchase after the house for the middle-class. It is never really an investment in contrast to the house (according to the logic before the Crash - a house was an investment). Electric cars allow to sell the second biggest item in the household "second time". Family gets an instant cash flow adjustment with electric cars economics: 2.5 cent cost per mile against 12 cents in conventional vehicle (CV). The government gets the opportuinity to send money to consumers to fight the Deflation Death Spiral and take it away into the value food chain, hopefully belonging to the domestic production cycle.
The way of doing it - stimulus for production in order to bring prices down, like today, and direct Tax Rebates on purchases of EVs - which are already in place. With the GM Volt battery strategy, the price for EVs will quickly reach the same level as for a CV, and in this situation the Electric Car could become an investment in the household balance sheet as it will be producing "an alternative income" relative to cost of ownership of CV. Here is our "adjusted" cash flow.  Third, why do we think it could happen at all? About it Obama, here."

Apple, with its unique proposition of lifestyle social-status marketing products, with almost perfect utility function, has the ability to dramatically change the way how we consume mobility. It is time for a real change and we all have an opportunity to capitalise on this dramatic technological shift. We are inviting Steve Jobs to the Green Mobility Revolution, transformation technology and disruption in the huge market place.

The ideal market situation for the new disruptive technology to create a lifetime investing opportunity is when the Demand for product or service is already there and you are able to deliver it in a new way, which will be more appealing to Existing consumers of this product or service. You have a dramatic shift in consumer preference and you are gaining a market share in a tidal wave fashion by shifting consumers from existing providers to the new product or service place. You do not have to teach the market and prove that they need this product - you just need to prove that the new technology you are putting in place is viable to deliver the Better Experience.

We have always loved our music. Sony made a Revolution in the way we consumed music with its Walkman - we were able to take our music with us as we went. CDs made the quality of music more appealing and record companies sold us our music one more time.

Steeve Jobs made another Revolution by providing the means to consume what we exactly want with iTunes and means to Store and Retrieve All Our Music as we go - in iPod. He sold us the music we already had and we were happy to buy it. He brought us a new Experience of how we consume the same music: it is convenient, easy, searchable, high quality and with us - all of it. We have moved in droves to the new source of joy.

Apple has managed an even more difficult trick with mobile phone: the iPhone has stormed the market without a single unique function not available on the market at that time. The key is the ultimate design and functionality which became the marketing product indicating your social status. And our music is again with us here. Only those who remember the Palm can understand our joy here. Will our children be taking Electric Cars for granted as well one day?

For the first time we have all we need under our fingertips with the iPad. It already changed the way we consume newspapers, books, magazines and access the web. Applications are providing a relatively cheap, focused software for the individual's particular need. We must admit that we still have to buy an App - so far everything we use is free. Will it make Windows obsolete one day?

With Electric Cars, all market estimations that we saw so far (apart from the quote from Warren Buffett) looks like a drop in the bucket at a time. Will it be 2%, 5% or 10% claimed by Nissan in 2020? It's not a Revolution - it is like a tea party. We dare to differ and think that Electric Cars will provide to us a new Experience how we consume Mobility: energy efficient, environment friendly and cheaper with all cost accounted. And yes - they will sell us our cars one more time, this time in an Electric version.

Is it bad? No, not at all if you will be investing in Electric Cars value chain. Even if you not, we will all gain from it more than from iPods - after all we have never heard about somebody being killed by CD, but those who still do not believe that cars pollute and kill our environment - therefore us - can try to breathe from an exhaust pipe for a while to be sure.

We expect consumers to shift - on a mass scale - from CVs to EVs, with proof that technology is viable and can provide the same utility but with a Better Experience. The Emotional Drive will be the driving force of this switch of consumer preferences.

And here is where the almighty Steve Jobs and Apple can drive our hearts to open our wallets even during the recessions. Everything is already produced by OEMs anyway: we need  Apple just to make it cool to drive an iCar, to make the iCar design and its functionality with Steve Job's signature attention to the detail. All particular auto functionality could be outsourced inside US: batteries, software, power train and auto safety. Something like J/V with established automaker will do the trick in order to achieve mass production. We think that automakers will be standing in line just to be involved.

Is this just confined to our dreams? We're not so sure: we have already found a few rumours about an iCar and even this picture below. We will appreciate if somebody can drop a line with any information on the iCar, its potential design or Steve Jobs' mobile number or email.

From our followers on Twitter:

Maybe EV iCar is already in the making and our idea about Electric Car from Apple it is not so stretched after all?

Electric cars charge in as rollouts line up

Electrics cars are about to change the face of auto industry and could rule the auto market in the next 2 years as they reduce carbon emission, pave way for less oil-dependance and save money for consumers amid rising oil prices.

Tesla electric vehincle

An electric car is powered by an electric motor instead of a gasoline engine. The electric motor gets energy from a controller, which regulates the amount of power, based on the driver's use of an accelerator pedal. The electric car uses energy stored in its rechargeable batteries.

Electric vehicles have not been widely adopted due to their limited driving range before needing to be recharged, long recharging times, and a lack of commitment by automakers to make electric cars.

However, as the battery technology improves, one will witness intense competition between car firms in the next two years to launch mainstream low carbon vehicles.

Moreover, one in five motorists would consider buying an electric car, according to a survey conducted by Swinton Insurance.

Electric vehicles could be a boon especially to the U.S., which is tightening environment regulations over carbon emissions and favoring automakers to roll out environment-friendly vehicles.

President Barack Obama has set a goal of getting 1 million plug-in hybrids and electric cars on U.S. roads by 2015.

Electric car usage is expected to cut carbon emissions by 30 percent in U.S., 40 percent in the UK and 19 percent in China.

By the end of the year, at least five electric vehicles ranging from big automakers to ambitious startups are expected to hit U.S. market. Most of these cars will charge in five or six hours on 220-volt home current.

The vehicles include both all-electric as well as plug-in hybrids. The basic difference between standard hybrid and plug-ins are that the batteries of plug-in hybrids can be recharged either by the vehicle's gasoline engine or the electric grid.

A plug-in hybrid's batteries are usually lithium-ion, which are more powerful than a standard hybrid's nickel-metal-hydride batteries, but need to be plugged in for hours to fully charge.

Let's take a look at several upcoming electric cars as well as some plug-in hybrids.

GM's Chevy Volt

Chevrolet Volt is a four-seater that runs on both electricity as well as gas. The vehicle runs on an electric charge for up to 40 miles and from then on the gas-powered engine switches on to generate electricity, providing another 300 miles on a full tank.

Chevrolet said it will produce 10,000 Volts by the end of 2011 and an additional 30,000 in 2012. The vehicle is expected to cost $33,500 after savings.

GM will introduce its Chevrolet Volt plug-in car in the U.S. late this year.

Ford will roll out an electric version of the Transit Connect van, and in 2011, it will launch a battery-powered version of the new Focus. As with many other electric vehicles, it is expected to have a 100-mile range on lithium-ion batteries. Ford is conservative with the electric Focus, and it plans to make less than 5,000 units annually in the first year or two.

Fisker Automotive' plug-in hybrid electric vehicle Karma is scheduled to hit showrooms by the end of the year. The Karma , which starts at $87,900 ($80,400 after US government tax credits), has a 300-mile range with a full battery charge and a full tank of gas. The first 50 miles are electric-only and emission free.

The four-seater Karma plug-in hybrid can go zero to 60 mph in six seconds and has a top speed of 125mph, but it can still achieve an annual average of more than 100mpg and drive tailpipe-emission free.

CODA Sedan

California-based CODA Automotive's CODA Sedan is a four-door, five passenger battery electric vehicle with a range of up to 120 miles per charge. The vehicle is scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2010. The list price for the vehicle is $45,000, excluding tax credits.
