  Five Miracles for hydrogen


1. Current fuel cells are very expensive - 1 mil in the movie. (We were told "average fuel cell" car now is 250k USD)
2. No enough space to store the hydrogen for the long range. (We will add safety)
3. Hydrogen has to be produced and is hugely expensive, even made from natural gas.
4. Fuel infrastructure needs to be created.
5. Competing technologies will not get better (Hybrids and Electric cars) 




As much as we loved hydrogen  idea in yearly 2000 with BLDP, PLUG and FCEL - we were lucky to get out with our money at the right time. There are some progress now and "average" price for a car told us by industry insiders is 250k USD now, but the main danger, apart from being years away of any commercial applications, is in another needle of addiction this time to Hydrogen supply network with the same familiar faces like Shell. Hydrogen must be produced somewhere as well and now the most economical way is to produce it from natural gas. We have a stable supply of gas in North America (Europe is now mostly at the mercy of Russia) for the foreseeable future and it will be a step ahead compare to oil, but at one point there will be a competition between world need for food - fertilisers are made with natural gas as well - and its transportation needs. We will add another most important point - Hydrogen economical cycle - by the time you have produced hydrogen, deliver it to the fuelling station, compressed it and safely store it on board of your vehicle, produced electricity in a fuel-cell and powered you electric motor you will lose a vast amount of energy compare to pure electric car.
  


  With advance in technology, maybe, in ten years time there will be commercial applications for hydrogen cars in a form of EREV - Electric Range Extended Vehicle - where the fuel-cell will act as a range extender to recharge the battery. For all our Lithium and REE addicted audience will be important to note, that we are in the right place with all these scenarios of development: it will be electricity as the most convenient form of energy known to us with electric motors (REE) to convert it to mechanical work to move your vehicle and batteries (Lithium) to store it.
  Mercedes F-Cell announced at Frankfurt Motor Show 2009 has a 16 kWh lithium battery.
